The recipient of numerous top prizes\, Adam Levin has been recognized by Associación Cultural Trujamán\, the Society \nA native of Chicago’s North Shore\, Levin holds BM and BA degrees from Northwestern University in Music Performance\, Psychology\, and Pre-Med. Under the tutelage of Eliot Fisk\, Levin completed a MM at New England Conservatory in Boston. His esteemed teachers have included Oscar Ghiglia\, Gabriel Estarellas\, Anne Waller\, Mark Maxwell\, and Paul Henry. He received his musical education at Berklee College of Music\, and has studied with many prestigious musicians\, such as John Mcgann\, Walter Beasley\, Bob Pilkington and Guy Van Duser. \n2011 The Grand Champion of the “Home of the Legends” International Thumb-Picking Contest in Mulenburg\, Kentucky\n2012 First Prize and Best Arrangement Award at Japan’s National Finger- Picking Guitar Contest \n \nDoug Smith\nGrammy-Award Winning Guitarist Doug Smith  has been called a cross between Chet Atkins\, Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges. In 2005\, Doug won a Grammy award for his participation on the Henry Mancini tribute CD Pink Guitar\, in 2006 he won the prestigious Winfield International Fingerstyle Guitar Competition\, and in 2007 he was one of the guitarists who contributed to the popular movie August Rush. \nSince then he has taught at guitar workshops throughout the country\, toured Japan\, Taiwan\, South Korea and China\, and shared the stage with guitar luminaries such as Andy McKee\, Tommy Emmanuel and Laurence Juber. For forty years Celso Machado has been performing on concert stages throughout Brazil\, Western Europe\, Scandinavia\, Canada\, and the United States. Considered one of the most versatile and exciting musician/composers of Brazilian music today; his guitar technique is but one of his passions; his gift for making music out of anything and everything around us is his mission in life. \nIn addition to Celso’s solo career he has shared the stages with some of the world’s great guitarists: Sergio and Odair Assad\, Badi Assad\, Romero Lubambo\, Yamandu Costa\, Cristina Azuma\, Peter Finger\, and Solorazaf.  He has opened for Gilberto Gil\, Bebel Gilberto\, Hermeto Pascaul\, and  Al di Meola; amongst other great musicians. \nBrazilian music has arisen out of various blends of Classical European\, African\, Portuguese and Indigenous influences. There is less division in Brazilian music between classical and jazz\, jazz and folk.  While Celso’s music is rooted in Brazilian rhythmic and melodic styles\, it also reflects his incurable fascination with other world music traditions. He finds similarities between the music of southern Italy and northeast Brazil\, the Egyptian Maqsoum and the Brazilian Baião  rhythm\, the Moroccan Gnawa rhythm  and Afoxé and Samba. Celso incorporates these influences into his own sound; his own unique contribution to the ongoing evolution of Brazilian music. \nDrawing on his thorough study of classical guitar\, Celso composes for guitar and ensemble.  His remarkably innovative compositions are infused with a rich knowledge of the traditional music of Brazil: samba\, chôro\, baião\, frêvo etc.  His compositions are published by Editions Henry Lemoine in Paris and are performed and recorded by both students and professionals around the World\, from solo performances to guitar orchestras.  Many of his scores have been adapted for other instruments: piano\, violin\, cello\, clarinet\, pan pipes\, harp etc.

DESCRIPTION:Choro Da Alegria: Pam Beaty (7-string guitar\, cavaquinho)\, Esteban Diaz (percussion)\, Peter Fung (guitar)\, Tom Pinit (bandolim (Brazilian mandolin)) \nChoro Da Alegria – Portland based ensemble dedicated to playing beautiful melodies of Brazil. The group draws much inspiration from the genre “Choro” (also called chorinho) which means “cry” or “lament” and which is sometimes called “Brazilian ragtime.” Despite its meaning\, the music\, created in the late 19th century in Rio de Janeiro\, commonly has very fast\, virtuosic\, and happy-sounding melodies. The group plays many choro classics\, including the compositions of two of choro’s greatest composers\, Jacob do Bandolim and Pixinguinha (Alfredo Viana). Beyond choro\, the group also performs classic tunes in the Bossa Nova and Musica Popular Brasileira (MPB) repertoires\, such as music by Antonio Carlos Jobim\, Luiz Bonfa\, and Paulinho da Viola. The group released its first CD\, “quiosque\,” in June\, 2015.
