DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, 2:00 p.m. December 8th  \nCDZ Collegium Musica presents  \nPeter Zisa & Friends 17th Annual Seasons of Lights Free Holiday Concert \nThe theme of this year’s program is: Share the Love! \nPortland State University \nVenue: Lincoln Recital Hall \n1620 SW Park Avenue \nPortland\, OR \n\n  \n \n\nSunday December 8th\, CDZ Collegium Musica is holding its Season of Lights FREE Holiday Community Concert. SOL’s mission is to provide a meaningful and unifying celebration of the holiday season that all the members of the community can attend and enjoy. The spiritual theme of the program is peace\, goodwill\, and loving kindness. Drawing from the four corners of the Portland metro\, the program and its featured artists represent a collage of the cultural and faith traditions of the community.   In the spirit of unity and goodwill the program invites all in attendance to give generously to community charities: Catholic Charity and Jewish Family and Child Services\, which provide aid and assistance to the needs of those needing food\, shelter\, and counseling. \nThis year’s program features seasonal\, traditional\, contemporary music from Japan\, Ukraine\, Middle East\, Brazil\, and Americas; that is\, everything from plainchant to Jazz. Joining Peter on the program is Jazz Hall of Fame vocalist Shirley Nanette and pianist Vince Frates\, Portland Shishimai Kai (Traditional Lion Dance) company\, Cantor Sarah Faux performing Gregorian chant and Bach’s Sleepers Awake\,  Grace and Lucy Flowerday performing Tedesco’s Fantasia for guitar and piano\, Brazilian flutist Gabriela Gimenes\, Thousand Waves (koto\, flute\, and guitar). This is a program for the entire family.

DESCRIPTION:CDZ Collegium Musica and U&I Event Center present \nG2P Trio Brasilieras perform\n@ Sylvia Gray’s Home Concert Series \nSaturday\, October 28\, 7:30 pm \n \nG2P Trio Brasilieras will perform a beautiful concert of Latin-influenced music originating from Argentina\, Brazil\, and Cuba\, with some Bach thrown in for good measure!  G2P is a brilliant trio consisting of two guitars (Peter Zisa\, Pam Beaty) and flute (Gabriela Gimenes). All three of these musicians have already performed here\, most recently and memorably Pam and Gabriela in a Brazilian group\, Choro de Allegra in the Berkeley Place Creekside series.  (See below for their brief bios.) \nThe concert will feature guitar solos\, duos\, and music for flute and guitar such as Bachianas Brasileiras No.5 and Distribução de Flôres by H. Villa-Lobos; Cuban Sketches by José Manuel Lezcano; and Suite Retratos\, Mvt. 2 by Ernesto Nazareth. \nGabriela Gimenes\, fulute\, originally from São Paulo\, Brazil\, holds a DMA from University of North Texas\, a MM from University of Central Arkansas\, and a BM from Sao Paulo State University. She has played with the Orquestra Academica do Estado de São Paulo and was featured as a soloist with São Paulo Wind Symphony. Since moving to Portland\, she has taught at Bravo Youth and performs with numerous groups throughout the Pacific Northwest. She is also an artist for Sorpo Novo Project at Yamaha Musical do Brasil and has published a flute notebook through Ricordi for Yamaha Musical do Brasil. Gabriela also serves as Chair of Youth Engagement for the National Flute Association.  \nPam Beaty has an MM in Guitar Performance from the University of Cincinnati. She is passionate about Brazilian music and has traveled to Brazil three times to study music and Portuguese. She taught guitar at Portland Community College for over 17 years and is on the board of the Portland Guitar Society. Two years ago\, Pam and Gabriela performed at Sylvia’s and Viktors’ Berkeley Place concert series with the memorable Brazilian choro group Choro da Alegria.\n  \nPeter Zisa  is an acclaimed classical guitar performer who has performed across the country and abroad for over 50 years. The distinctive quality of his performances has been described by critics and fans as “poetic\, moving\, exciting\, engaging\, authentic\, powerfully expressive\, and musical.” His high performance standard and remarkable stylistic versatility add to his virtuosity as a performer. In 2017\, Peter established Casa Della Zisa Collegium Musica as a 501(c) non-profit with the mission to bring the community together through music performance\, education\, and cultural exchange.

A frequent and active performer in the Pacific Northwest\, Maria has played twice as the featured guitarist for the Portland Guitar Society. For many years she performed with Duende\, a Brazilian music trio\, and every spring Maria performs at the Northwest Handmade Instrument Show.

He comes from a well-known Kolpakov music dynasty that has three generations of virtuoso guitarists. Vadim specializes in Gypsy music from Europe with the fusion of Jazz\, Pop\, Flamenco\, Latin and other World Music.  Vadim is an artistic director of Via Romen company\, he runs several projects with various musicians\, singers and dancers\, such as Zingaresca Ensemble and VS Guitar Duo. He performs at concerts\, festivals\, private and corporate events\, and is also known as a great guitar teacher and teaches classes online and in person.

At the University of Utah\, he studied composition and theory under Henry Wolking and Alan Weight. Inspired by the soulful pianist Wayne Chritiansen\, Vince plays authentically in many styles including rock\, funk\, soul\, pop\, country\, jazz and fusion. \nVince is an much in-demand studio musician. He has worked with all jazz bands and vocalists in town. He has also composed commercial music. His compositions have been heard on documentary films\, film trailers\, broadcast television and promotional music of all kinds. Among Vince’s composition credits are Good Morning America\, NBC Nightly News\, ABC Sports and The Today Show. His film trailer credits include The Nightmare Before Christmas\, The Lion King\, The Adventures of Huck Finn and dozens more. Vince’s large catalog of library music is regularly heard in diverse video productions.

Noted for his “astounding technical proficiency and artistic delicacy” by the Boston Musical Intelligencer\, Larget-Caplan has throughout the USA and in Europe\, Russia\, and Taiwan\, including El Palacio de Linares in Madrid\, Spain\, Sheremetev Palace in Russia\, and Palazzo del Te & Ducale in Mantova\, Italy. Aaron is on tour from Massachusetts. Last month he performed in the L.A. and Bay area. This will be Aaron’s only live in-person general public performance in Portland before traveling for a series of other concerts. Aaron’s program will be eclectic: Bach\, Beatles\, Tango\, John Cage (early piano music arranged for guitar by Aaron)\, and new works from around the world. He will perform and be interviewed for All-Classical radio station’s Thursday at 3:00 program Thursday\, June 16th. Friday afternoon at 1:00\, before his 7:30 public concert\, Aaron will perform a short program for the Mary’s Woods Retirement Community. \n\nSPECIAL DIRECTIONS:\nMadeleine’s Old Historic Church is on the second floor in the building between the church and the school. There is a circular driveway to the front door of the building for easy access for wheel chair access. If you enter the building from 24th street\, go past two double doors where there is an elevator and staircase to the Old Historic Church Concert room (2nd floor). If you purchase your tickets in advance your name will be on the will-call list. You also have the option of printing out your own ticket or downloading it on your phone.
