Her flamenco pilgrimage took her to Spain where she studied at Matilde Coral’s Academy in Triana & Mercedes Ruiz in Jerez. Mark’s pursuit of flamenco took him to Spain where he studied under the tutelage of flamenco guitar masters. The mentorship training he received directly infused his knowledge and passion for the art of flamenco song and dance accompaniment. After he began his studies in flamenco guitar\, his understanding of the importance of falsetas within the flamenco performance grew. Mark held a position of flamenco guitarist at the University of New Mexico and he toured with the second company of María Benítez. He was the music director for Solo Flamenco‘s Arts Academy\, where he taught flamenco guitar and serves as the primary guitarist for El Cuadro Solo Flamenco. \nDr. Peter Joseph Zisa is an acclaimed performer on the six and eight-string classical guitar. His performance career\, which started at age thirteen\, has taken him across the U.S. and abroad. DESCRIPTION:RSVP casadellazisa@gmail.com or call 503-307-4907\n$20 seat; $15 for PGS members\, senior citizens\, and students \nChoro da Alegria (choro of happiness) is a Portland-based ensemble dedicated to playing the wonderful melodies of Brazil. The group is thrilled to be returning to the CDZ concert series \nChoro da Alegria draws much inspiration from the genre choro\, which means cry or lament and has been loosely called “Brazilian ragtime.” Choro features samba rhythms\, jazzy chords and fast tempos. Beyond choro the group enjoys performing classics tunes from Bossa Nova and MPB. Choro da Alegria is Pam Beaty on 7 string guitar\, Tom Pinit on bandolim\, and Esteban Diaz on percussion. The group released its first CD\, “quiosque\,” in 2015. \nThe concert will also feature special guest flutist Gabriela Gimenes from São Paulo\, Brazil. Pam Beaty and Peter Zisa will also perform set of Brazilian guitar duets.
